Rebecca Modrzynski grew up locally in Black Mountain in a musical home. She started studying piano formally at age nine and was an accompanist for her middle school and high school choirs. She continued her piano studies in South Carolina as a Fuqua Scholar at Presbyterian College, at which she received her BA in Piano Performance. In 2010 she completed a Masters of Divinity from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA.

Rebecca has shared music with children in a variety of contexts – from the informality of vacation Bible school and family camps to private piano instruction. She has had six years of private teaching in California with both adults and children as young as three. Although her musical endeavors include leading music for church conferences and playing in worship ensembles, she finds special joy in teaching young children. She is currently the director of a local pre-school choir. At the Asheville Music School she will teaching mostly three and four year olds.

Lessons with Rebecca

Rebecca strives to give her students a solid foundation in music that involves technique, ear training, musicianship, theory and composition. She believes music needs to be fun and hands-on, so she uses games and other creative activities to teach note reading, theory and other piano essentials. She helps the student learn how to feel and hear music, and early on encourages student improvisation and composition. Rebecca’s aim in teaching is to help a student reach his or her highest potential while also nurturing a love and excitement for music.

Rebecca’s teaching style is gentle and positive. She is nurturing and relational; she enjoys connecting with each student and tapping into his or her unique interests and learning style.
